Home / Online Teaching Certificate (OTC)

The CTLD Online Teaching Certificate (OTC) program is a professional development program designed to provide faculty members with the knowledge and skills needed to design and teach effective asynchronous online courses. The program is offered entirely online and takes approximately 6 weeks to complete. Participants are expected to commit 3-6 hours of work each week to complete assignments.

Throughout the program, participants will learn about best practices in online teaching and asynchronous course design. They will be provided with a variety of resources and tools to support their learning, including readings, videos, case studies, and interactive activities. The program covers topics such as creating effective learning objectives, designing engaging activities and assessments, facilitating online discussions, and providing feedback to students.

Throughout the program, participants will have access to a variety of support resources, including online discussion forums, one-on-one consultations with the instructor and instructional designer, and access to additional readings and resources.

Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of participation that can be added to their professional portfolio. This certificate indicates that the participant has demonstrated a strong understanding of best practices in online teaching and course design and is prepared to design and teach effective asynchronous online courses.

At the end of the 6 weeks, participants will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned by developing a complete online course within a 6-month timeframe. See instructions below about Earning the Online Teaching Certificate.

Overall, the CTLD Online Teaching Certificate (OTC) program provides faculty members with a valuable opportunity to develop their skills in online teaching and course design, and to create high-quality, engaging online courses that meet the needs of their students.

Earning the Online Teaching Certificate

To earn the Online Teaching Certificate (OTC), you must complete your online course so that the course meets the QM rubric standards. Review your completed course with the QM rubric (with the goal of scoring 85 or higher) and share the scored rubric with the Center for Teaching & Learning Design.

To review your course with the QM rubric, you’ll need to create a MyQM account, then use the Self-Review tool in QM.

  1. Watch Tutorial

Watch the tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB5t4E71jlk) for instructions on how to create a MyQM account and use the Self-Review tool.

  2. Open a QM Account & Review Course

Open a MyQM account at https://www.qualitymatters.org/qm-membership/faqs/membership/create-myqm-account and review your course with the Self-Review tool.

  3. E-mail Results

When done reviewing your course, e-mail the results to CTLD at ctld@stockton.edu.

Please note that the QM Self-Review tool does not provide your course with an official QM certification. We are using the QM rubric as an evaluation tool for the OTC program.

The CTLD Instructional Designer reviews your course and QM rubric to provide you with feedback. Once the course is confirmed to score an 85 or higher on the QM rubric, you are notified and receive your Online Teaching Certificate.
