Peer evaluation is a collegial process of discussing pedagogical goals and obtaining feedback from a tenured faculty colleague. Feedback provided serves as formative assessment designed to highlight strengths and identify strategies to improve teaching skills and summative assessment designed to evaluate alignment with formal teaching standards for tenure and promotion.

Peer Evaluators
Peer observations of your teaching can be confirming and educational. Per the new Memorandum of Agreement, Procedure for the Evaluation of Faculty and Library Faculty 8.2 (2026): "Eligible Observers. Tenured faculty and NTTP faculty with multi-year contracts who have completed University-approved training for peer observation may serve as observers for in-person or hybrid courses. For fully online courses, observers must also have University-approved online pedagogy training. Equivalent certifications for either type of observation may be approved by the University" 8.2.3.
