Student Emergency Relief Fund
The Student Emergency Relief Fund is intended to provide assistance of up to $1,500 per award to students experiencing an unforeseen emergency that threatens their ability to continue their education. The fund is designed to address exceptional circumstances rather than ongoing financial need or recurring expenses. The fund is not intended to cover routine educational expenses, anticipated living costs, or ongoing financial need.
Qualifying Emergency Expenses:
- Housing Emergencies: eviction prevention, emergency temporary housing, security deposits following displacement, utility shut-off prevention.
- Health and Safety Emergencies: emergency medical, dental, prescription, or crisis-related expenses.
- Transportation Emergencies: emergency vehicle repairs required to maintain transportation to classes, clinical placements, internships, student teaching assignments, or employment necessary to remain enrolled.
- Crisis Situations: fire, flood, natural disaster, crime victimization, domestic violence situations, or theft of essential personal property.
Non-Qualifying Expenses:
- Tuition, fees, books, technology, routine course material, on-campus housing
- Regular utilities, regular groceries, ongoing childcare costs
- Credit card debt, personal loans, or other existing debt
- Entertainment expenses, and other routine or discretionary expenses
All of the following criteria must be met in order to receive assistance from the Student Relief Fund:
- Emergency is a qualifying emergency per the above guidelines.
- Can provide documentation of the emergency.
- Emergency occurred within 90 days of application date.
- Emergency creates an immediate financial hardship.
- Student has consulted with the Financial Aid Office and has no other financial options available.
- Enrolled in at least 12 credits for undergraduate or 6 credits for graduate students in the current semester at the time of application.
- Earned a minimum of 12 undergraduate or 9 graduate Stockton University credits in a current degree program
- Must be a matriculated student.
- Be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or greater and successfully completed 50% of classes enrolled)
- Be in good judicial standing.
- Has not previously exceeded the maximum allowable instances of support from the Student Relief Fund (Undergraduates – no more than two awards, separated by at least one year, Graduates – no more than one award).
