Student Success Scholars Program FAQs

A mentor will be provided with information of his or her new mentee before the start of classes.​
A mentee will receive a letter from the Student Success Scholars Program with instructions on how to contact his or her mentor. Mentors will be provided with a copy of this email.
A Student Success Scholars Program staff member will provide you with background information about your mentor. Mentees are requested to share with mentors a copy of their OSPREY Success Plan during their first face-to-face meeting.

Yes, and review all information entered by your mentee in the OSP.

Ask your mentee if he or she needs help in completing his or her OSP. Your OSP should be completed by the first or second week after the start of each semester.
It depends on their situation. For example, a mentee maybe working full–time and is taking 4 courses. Therefore, it is understandable if a mentee decides not to join any student organization and not complete the Student Involvement Plan section of the SOP. Other sections of the OSP, however, should be completed.
Mentees will be provided with a copy of the OSP during their interview prior to joining the Program, or during orientation, and a Student Success Scholars Program " To-Do List." They will be instructed to complete their OSP prior to their first meeting with their mentors.
  1. Attend one orientation each semester;
  2. Meet with mentor at least once a month, and provide weekly updates ( Communications via Facebook, Twitter, email, texting and phone are all acceptable);
  3. Attend two workshops (Academic or Life Skills workshops) during the first semester, and one workshop on the second semester;
  4. Review and act on their Student Success Scholars Program " To-Do List." 
  5. Participate in one community service activity for at least two hours before the end of the semester. Click here to see a list of volunteer opportunities with Stockton's Community Partners.

Note: An email or a letter from the supervisor who supervised the mentee's community service will suffice as proof of completion and should be submitted via email to:care@stockton.edu.

A Life Skills Workshop is a workshop designed to help students responsibly manage their personal affairs. Some examples are: Time Management, Managing Stress and How to Deal with Test Anxiety.
An Academic Workshop is a workshop designed to help students learn more about their selected courses, majors or academic pursuits. Some examples are: Communication Studies Workshop, Pre-Physical Theraphy Workshop, How to Prepare for Advising, Understanding the Financial Aid Process and Hospitality Management Workshop.
A mentee should attend at least three workshops (Life Skills or Academic Workshops) on his or her first semester as Program participant, and is allowed to attend workshops offered by other Stockton departments, or as recommended by a faculty. On his or her second semester, the student should only attend one workshop. 
The Student Success Scholars Program Coordinator will review all information pertaining to the mentee. The review may result in providing additional support and focus to the mentee or withdrawal of the mentee from the Program.
All Program participants are required to stay active for two semesters.
The student could lose his or her financial aid or status as a student at Stockton University, if they have not complied with Financial Aid's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy. Click here.
