The Lloyd D. Breaking Free from Eating Disorders After Surviving Trauma and Abuse

Participants of this workshop will learn about different types of trauma and eating disorders which can manifest when survivors bury feelings associated with their experiences. Participants will engage in a community conversation on stereotypes, microaggressions and implicit bias. Let’s Talk About Racism, Trauma and its Impact on Mental Health and Well-being

In this unprecedented time as we struggle together against COVID-19, our society continues to wrestle with racial justice for all. With the recent losses of George Floyd, Amhaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, in addition to many more people of color who lost their lives to race-based violence, the Black community is experiencing tremendous pain and our nation as a whole struggling with divisiveness.  In this three-hour workshop, participants will engage in a community conversation focusing on understanding and addressing the impact and intersection of racism, trauma, and mental health within the BIPOC community.  Participants will identify the role of service providers and agencies in the fight against racial inequities and list actionable strategies to promote wellness within the BIPOC communities and racial justice in our society.

This course, part of our Academic Writing Program, focuses on helping masters-level, doctoral-level and capstone-level undergraduate students rethink, revise, and edit their current research projects. This live, online course will walk students through their research paper, thesis, and/or dissertation from conception to their discussion section. Divided into four, 2-hour sessions, each meeting will consist of instruction, direct application to writing samples, review of self-editing techniques, and the opportunity to ask our expert instructor questions. Additional personalized feedback will also be provided to each participant’s paper by the instructor at the conclusion of the course. Upon leaving this course, participants will be able to identify and incorporate the required elements of a research paper, formulate a research question and/or hypothesis correctly, identify measures to operationalize research variables, correctly cite sources in both literature reviews and discussion, self-edit their research paper, and learn to receive constructive criticism to improve their writing. All participants registering for this course should have the minimum of an established research question and collected data. Participants with active research paper/thesis drafts or dissertation prospectus are strongly encouraged to attend.

The course includes topics on system elements, regulations, practical use of Unmanned Aviation Systems, safety, the history and the future of UAS, sensors and payloads, and human factors. Students will be introduced to the various types of UAS, their mission, their power capability, satellite uplink and direct line of sight flight as well as autonomous flight. Students will learn about the sense and avoid capability and the Certificate of Operations application and approval for flight of UAS in the National Airspace System. Students will also receive the necessary background to understand the National Airspace System (NAS).
