Dance Company Residence

Location: Performing Arts Center
ODC/Dance Company of ten world-class dancers performs its imaginative repertory for
more than l 50,000 people annually. In addition to two annual home seasons in San
Francisco (Dance Downtown and its holiday production, The Velveteen Rabbit), recent
highlights include appearances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Next Wave Festival
in New York, MODAFE Festival in Seoul Korea, Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley, and past
standing-room-only engagements in Europe, Russia, and Asia. Way’s work was selected
by Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) for the Inaugural Dancemotion Tour in 2010. For
this return performance, the company plans to bring a pair of masterworks by Founding
Artistic Director Brenda Way. The company classic "Investigating Grace", named an
American Masterpiece by the NEA in 2010. The company will also be performing Way's
more recent "Collision, Collapse and a Coda" also named a "mini-masterpiece" by the
San Francisco Chronicle.
The Dance Company Residency, now in its twelfth year, engages Stockton students and the surrounding community. Through classes for dance students, general studies students, and the public, the artists-in-residence teach movement and share their experiences as working artists. The residency culminates in a performance by ODC at Stockton's Performing Arts Center on Friday, October 9, at 7:30 pm.

Fannie Lou Hamer Human and Civil Rights Symposium

Please join Stockton University, the Africana Studies program, and the Unified Black
Students Society for the 23rd Annual Fannie Lou Hamer Human and Civil Rights Symposium.
Fannie Lou Hamer was among the most significant participants in the struggle launched
in the latter half of the twentieth century to achieve freedom and social justice
for African Americans.
This year's program will feature a musical performance by Arnetta Johnson and Keynote
Speaker Freedom Smitty.

Fall Choreography Project

Fall Choreography Project brings together new works from the most promising student
choreographers in the Stockton dance community. It continues a Stockton tradition
of presenting exciting and thought-provoking work from choreographers at all stages
of their artistic development. These dance makers are forging new paths in contemporary
choreography, and the Fall Choreography Project is an opportunity to witness the early
work of the next generation of New Jersey dance artists.

Spring Dance Concert

Spring Dance Concert highlights the gifted artists of the Stockton dance community,
presenting works from notable guest choreographers that challenge these maturing performers.
Internationally recognized and up-and-coming artists join resident choreographers
Beau Hancock, Caitlin Quinn Pittenger, Rain Ross, and Lauren Putty White, whose eclectic
and imaginative choreography dependably delights. This diverse program promises to
be a moving evening.
Emerging Choreographers Showcase

The Emerging Choreographers Showcase is filled with moments of striking physicality,
unusual grace, and the unexpected. This juried showcase for dance makers at the start
of their careers is a laboratory for choreographic experimentation and innovation.
The Experimental Theatre's intimacy offers audiences a personal experience with forward-looking
choreography and gives these developing artists the chance to cultivate their artistic
voices. Witness the variety and vibrancy of the Stockton community's finest emerging
choreographers.
