Marine Field Station (MFS)
The Marine Field Station is used to support academic programs related to coastal sciences.
The Port Republic site makes available the facilities, vessels, equipment, and professional support staff to provide hands-on training in estuarine and near-coastal ocean environments.
The vocational skills taught by the Marine Field Station team foster unique career paths beyond traditional marine science to prepare students for a future in the broader maritime and coastal science industries.
Research Vessels & Field Equipment
Stockton’s fleet includes seven workboats, each a platform geared toward specific teaching and research activities. Students gain hands-on marine operations experience and direct instrument knowledge from day one, building the skills that set them apart after graduation.

Marine Operations
Marine operations and safety instruction are important components of the vocational skills delivered by the Marine Field Station instructional team. Students engage in deck operations to become valuable crew members with foundational skills that include line handling, safety procedures and small vessel operations.
From Classroom to Coast
The Port Republic site is located in the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve and less than 30 minutes by vessel to the open ocean. Consistent student access, beginning in year one, is afforded by the close proximity to the Galloway and Atlantic City campuses.
