Homegrown Community Engagement Programs
Stanley S. Holmes Village
The Homework Completion Program is held in the Community Room at Stanley Holmes Village, located at 1539 Arctic Avenue, Atlantic City, NJ. From Mondays through Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, volunteers from SCCESL and the ACPD tutor children in the community room. The program is a collaboration between the SCCESL, the Atlantic City Police Department (ACPD), and the Atlantic City Housing Authority and Urban Redevelopment Agency. The primary goal of the Homework Completion Program is to engage children in their schoolwork and offer children a vision into the potential of a future college education. Buzby Homes Village - TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED
The Homework Completion Program in the Community Room at Buzby Homes Village, located at 600 South Drive, Atlantic City, NJ, returns this semester, with modifications due to COVID-19. From Mondays through Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, volunteers from SCCESL and the ACPD tutor children in the community room. The program is a collaboration between the SCCESL, the Atlantic City Police Department (ACPD), and the Atlantic City Housing Authority and Urban Redevelopment Agency. Pleasantville Public Library
The Homework Completion Program is held in the Meeting Room at the Pleasantville Public Library, located at 33 MLK Avenue, Pleasantville, NJ. From Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm, volunteers from SCCESL and the PPD tutor children at the City of Pleasantville meeting room in the Pleasantville Branch of the Atlantic County Public Library System. The program is a collaboration between the SCCESL, the Pleasantville Police Department (PPD), and the City of Pleasantville. The primary goal of the Homework Completion Program is to engage children in their schoolwork and offer children a vision into the potential of a future college education. SCCESL have resumed in-person Tuesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Scarpa Academic Center in room 312. Class materials are provided by the Community Relations Officer of USCIS Newark District, and also derived from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Website, under Citizenship Resource Center, at www.uscis.gov/citizenship. Social Hour
The Social Hour Program is a collaboration between the SCCESL and the Atlantic City Housing Authority. This semester, we will be conducting four sessions per month, rotating through our community partner sites, which will offer the opportunity for adults living in subsidized housing complexes to play checkers, chess, cards, bingo and dominoes. (Formerly) Campus Kitchen at Atlantic City - Paused for 2023
Stockton students and Atlantic City High School students work together under the supervision of a professional chef at the Atlantic City High School on Monday afternoons from 2:30 to 5:00pm to prepare and deliver 150 meals for families in need within Atlantic City and Pleasantville. English Learners Classes - Paused for 2023
o Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church
SCCESL has continued its collaboration with Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church, located at 118 West Bayview Ave., Pleasantville, NJ, to maintain an English Learners Program for the parents of children who attend an after-school program at the church. Stockton students work with church staff members on Thursdays from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm to provide English instruction at the church. The program runs from September 2019 through June 2020. School Murals - Paused for 2023
The Stockton Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning partners with the Atlantic City School District to have Stockton students assist in designing and painting murals within the school district.
