Why did you choose Stockton?

During my time at community college, I explored my options and took a Stockton campus tour, where I learned I could transfer earlier than I had expected. I also realized I could do so comfortably without having to choose between the quality and affordability of my education. I appreciated Stockton’s access to the natural environment and how well suited it was for my major, which made Stockton the clear choice for me.

How did you choose your major?

I grew up appreciating not only the agricultural environment around me but also the diverse ecosystems around the world, thanks to the wonderful role models in my life. However, it was my high school FFA teacher who helped turn that appreciation into a meaningful passion. Over four years and six classes, from Intro to Agricultural Science to Biotechnology, he was an important source of support and encouragement. During that time, I volunteered for supplemental instruction to participate in a land judging competition, which became a foundational experience for me. Environmental Science was a natural choice, but when I learned Stockton offers a concentration in Soil Science, I knew this was the right path.

What opportunities has Stockton provided you?

Developing meaningful relationships with professors has enriched my academic experience with several opportunities. Through independent study, I was fortunate to serve as a teaching assistant and a research student for two of my core professors. I also  was able to participate in the 2025 Northeast Regional Soil Judging Competition as part of the Field Soil Morphology course curriculum.

What clubs and activities are you involved with?

Because of my long-distance commute and limited time, I initially believed that becoming involved outside the classroom would not be possible. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. For two years, I have served as a greenhouse assistant. Any time I can spare, I tend to find myself in the greenhouse, either completing my responsibilities or starting new projects of my own to feed my curiosity.

What are your career goals?

Most of my career goals are long-term. I wish to pursue a Ph.D. in soil science and give back to my community. I am not tied to any specific career, so long as I can focus my energy and curiosity on striving toward a safe and sustainable future, whether through improving food security, water quality or ecosystem conservation.

What advice do you have for students thinking about attending Stockton?

Reach out. As a first-generation and a transfer student, there were many daunting and unfamiliar moments where I found myself lost as a student, but more importantly, as a person. Stockton is full of amazing faculty, and there is always someone you can reach out to for help, support and guidance.

Developing meaningful relationships with professors has enriched my academic experience.
