Galloway Twp. Following an initial event that drew participation from more than 200 volunteers and touched the lives of many more, The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey is looking forward to its 2nd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday January 16, 2006.
The brainchild of College President Herman J. Saatkamp, Jr., the event provides an opportunity for Stockton students, faculty and staff to partner with local non profit and service agencies in ways that are both helpful and memorable.
Last years program was exceptional, Saatkamp said. What better way to reflect on Dr. Kings legacy than to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Our Stockton community responded in spectacular fashion last year.
Volunteers from the College will be providing a variety of services at numerous agencies, including (Note to editors: the following list is not complete at the time of this writing) Atlantic City Rescue Mission, Caring, Inc., SPCA, Family Service Association, and Gildas Club. There will also be numerous service activities available on campus, such as letter-writing to servicemen and servicewomen, and quilt making for Project Linus which serves abused children. Books Without Borders will be sorting donating books on campus as well.
