Stockton Formally Announces

Masters Program in Education

Galloway Twp., NJ The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey has formally announced the start of its new Masters of Arts in Education program for practicing teachers.

 

The program is designed to meet the needs of teachers who want to improve or update their content background. It will begin with the start of classes in the Fall, 2004 semester, but Stockton is now offering several graduate-level courses that can be applied toward the degree. Interested individuals should call 652-4451 for an application, brochure or more information.

 

According to Dr. Frank Cerreto, chair of the committee that developed the new program, the new Master of Arts in Education has a program of study that takes advantage of areas in which Stockton faculty have strong expertise. The program offers specialized tracks in math, science and language arts/literacy. The College anticipates admitting approximately 80 students per year.

 

This program will prepare teachers to apply for the National Board Certification, as well as address New Jerseys standards for students and teachers and its shortage of teachers, said Dr. Virginia deThy, Director of Education. deThy said the program also includes a special education program which can lead to certification with the proper planning.

 

In addition to offering classes at Stockton, deThy said the College was prepared to teach programs off campus if school districts would like to offer graduate-level courses to their teachers at local district sites. Stockton has experience offering these courses off-campus, having successfully offered Masters in Instructional Technology courses in the Linwood Schools.
