Marchetti, Small to be Honored at Richard Stockton College of NJs Annual Council of Black Faculty and Staff Awards Dinner

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ Dr. Joseph J. Marchetti, Richard Stockton College of NJs Vice President of Student Affairs, and Marty Small, Atlantic City Second District City Councilman, receive the evenings top awards at the 23^rd Annual Dinner Dance of The Colleges Council of Black Faculty and Staff.

The event will be held Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the Trump Taj Mahal, Diamond Ballroom in Atlantic City. A cash bar cocktail hour at 6 p.m. will precede the dinner, with all proceeds of the $60 per person ticket cost benefiting the Councils Scholarship Fund. Marchetti, a 19-year administrator at the College, will receive the Annual Award of Merit in recognition of his many years of dedicated service to the Stockton community. The longtime Dean of Students, Marchetti provided outstanding leadership in all phases of student life from 1985 through 2000.

Marchetti was promoted to Associate Vice President for Student Affairs in 2000, and was named Vice President for Student Affairs in December of 2003 following a brief period as Interim VP. In this role he supervises and administers the Student Affairs Division of the College with its 170 professional and support staff members. His functional areas include Enrollment Management, Student Records and Registration, Institutional Research, Dean of students, campus life and auxiliary budgets, including housing and college centers.

In addition to his administrative duties Marchetti has held a position as adjunct faculty member throughout his tenure at the College. Prior to Stockton, Marchetti was Assistant to the Dean of Students at the Penn State University Hazleton Campus from 1981 to 1985. He also held administrative posts at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., and at Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

Marty Small. a 1998 Stockton graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Communications Studies, is the recipient of the Councils Distinguished Alumni Award.

Last year Small was elected 2^nd Ward Councilman to become the youngest person in Atlantic Citys history to hold that position. He is employed by the Atlantic City Board of Education as Coordinator of Extracurricular Activities.

He began a career in public service in 2002 when he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Atlantic City Free Public Library. Later that year he was the leading vote-getter in the Board of Education election and was named Vice President of the board at its reorganization meeting and held the post throughout his term.

A lifelong resident of Atlantic City and graduate of Atlantic City High School, Small went on to become one of the greatest mens basketball players in Stockton history. Small scored 1,238 career points and is Stocktons all-time leading rebounder with 999. His teams compiled a four-year record of 87-28 and the Ospreys won consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference championships in 1995 and 1996. He helped his team to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament finals one season, and three appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament, including two Sweet 16 finishes and a berth in the Elite Eight.
