Clinical Educator Workshop 2020
The Wonderland of Clinical Education
Friday, February 21, 2020
Stockton University Campus Center Event Room 9:00 a.m.-4:15 p.m.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Course Description
Clinicians in practice are more than their professional roles. They are educators, parents, family members, friends, mentors, etc., and those daily roles can affect teaching behaviors in clinical education. Teaching and learning behaviors differ from person to person, but if there is a mismatch in behaviors without resolution, conflict can ensue. Conflict disrupts the workplace and impacts the quality of the learning experience for student clinicians. The Wonderland of Continuing Education will explore how different life roles can affect the teaching behaviors of clinical educators and impact student learning leading up to and including the delivery of feedback. This workshop will also teach participants how to engage in guided, intentional critical thinking and reflection exercises with student clinicians to facilitate meaningful dialogue. Participants will learn about learning and conflict management styles, explore challenges and tools for conflict resolution, and be able to implement learning strategies that are congruent to students’ affect and skill level.
